Alumni: Former USC pitcher Aaron Rawl, promoted to Class A Lakewood (N.J.)
Posted on Sunday, July 17 @ Eastern Daylight Time Baseball

Former USC pitcher Aaron Rawl, promoted to Class A Lakewood (N.J.) on Wednesday, got his first South Atlantic League win a couple of hours after showing up for the BlueClaws’ afternoon game against West Virginia.

After flying in that morning, the Phillies prospect dashed out to FirstEnergy Park, got there in time to pitch the final two outs of the seventh inning, then sat back and watched his teammates score four runs in the bottom half to take a 7-6 lead. Then, the rain came, shortening the game and making a winner out of Rawl. ...

Also making an auspicious debut — again — was former Citadel first baseman Chip Cannon, who homered in his first at-bat for Class AA New Hampshire in a 4-0 Eastern League win against Portland. Cannon, twice promoted by the Blue Jays this year, hit two homers in his first appearance for Class A Dunedin last month. ... Former USC pitcher Lee Gronkiewicz pitched a scoreless ninth inning and got the save for the North in Wednesday’s 9-6 Eastern League All-Star Game. ... Kris Harvey pitched and played first base and outfield for Clemson, but the Marlins, who drafted him this year as an outfielder, have been trying him at third base recently. It’s been good news/bad news so far. As Jamestown’s third baseman for two New York-Penn League games this past week, he homered and committed two errors in each game. ... In the rookie Northwest League, former USC center fielder Davy Gregg stole three more bases for Boise Friday, giving him a league-leading 19. ... Clemson alum Russ Triplett, an occasional infield starter for Class A Hagerstown, homered in back-to-back South Atlantic League wins at Lake County this past week and drove in a combined six runs. ... In the Class A California League, Westminster native Jared Burton has saved four of Class A Stockton’s past six games.
