Alumni: Delhomme has faith in Wharton
Posted by icatcherFootball on Saturday, August 20 @ Eastern Daylight Time (164 reads)

The daily waltz of the offensive linemen, 300-pounders with dainty feet moving in perfect unison, looks like a winning combination for Carolina with its blend of experience and talented youth.

Recently acquired left guard Mike Wahle, starting his eighth season, and left tackle Travelle Wharton, undergoing a change back to his college position, appear to be a natural duo.

Alumni: Powell on sidelines rehabbing left knee
Posted by icatcherBaseball on Sunday, August 07 @ Eastern Daylight Time (291 reads)

The Oakland Athletics’ farm system is full of “live arms,” the slang term for hard-throwing pitchers, but it also has at least one dead leg.

That would be Landon Powell’s surgically reconstructed left leg, the knee of which now is supported by a ligament extracted from a donor.

Former Riverside High and University of South Carolina running back Brandon Bennett believes that youth is wasted on the young.

After entering the NFL in 1995, Bennett spent six seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He played with Tampa Bay briefly last season before signing with the Carolina Panthers in October.

Now a free agent, Bennett, 32, is getting the senior citizen treatment, as teams audition their fresh talent.

Alumni: Turner maintains NFL dream despite knee injury
Posted by icatcherFootball on Wednesday, July 27 @ Eastern Daylight Time (152 reads)

Despite having gained international notoriety for his dance steps, former South Carolina tight end Hart Turner was unable to make the one move that would have prevented his summer from ruin.

In a late May practice with NFL Europe's Cologne (Germany) Centurions, Turner was one of several volunteers who simply stood in a spot on the field while the kickoff coverage unit practiced its routes around them.

He's been up for about an hour, but shortstop Steven Tolleson is already killing time.

It's 10:30 a.m., and Tolleson has just returned from the local hospital -- where, through his minor league team, he lifts weights four times a week in keeping with the routine developed while at South Carolina.

The 2002 Dorman graduate sits in the upstairs den with his laptop, surfing the Web while his host family packs boxes for its upcoming move down the road.

Former USC pitcher Aaron Rawl, promoted to Class A Lakewood (N.J.) on Wednesday, got his first South Atlantic League win a couple of hours after showing up for the BlueClaws’ afternoon game against West Virginia.

After flying in that morning, the Phillies prospect dashed out to FirstEnergy Park, got there in time to pitch the final two outs of the seventh inning, then sat back and watched his teammates score four runs in the bottom half to take a 7-6 lead. Then, the rain came, shortening the game and making a winner out of Rawl. ...
